Southwest “It’s On” Campaign brings fresh air to airline commercials
ByIn the world of aviation travel, commercials are all about the cheapest prices and the most benefits for its frequent flyers. However, Southwest Airlines have concentrated on the most important thing over the past couple of years: customer service. This concentration has made them one of the most successful airlines in recent history. As someone who rarely flys Southwest (they don’t fly to Atlanta), this ad really makes the potential customer feel empowered. I think its very unique in that it says very little about the airline, no mention of prices or benefits, only the sheer excitement of traveling. It emphasizes one of the most negative parts of flying (the anxiety before deplaning) and turns that negativity into excitement and joy. I think it is an innovative ad that continues to set itself apart from the competition with honesty and a clear concentration on the customers experience.

I agree with you Haynes. Southwest Airlines always has the best advertising for the sole reason that they always try something new and different. They already have a great customer service background and it continues to improve when they produce great commercials and advertisements. I am a regular Southwest Airlines flyer because they have a phenomenal safety record, are always efficient, and fly one type of plane. But, I will continue to always go back to them because of their friendly flight attendants and efficient method of getting their fliers on and off of planes quickly. I like that they let you choose where to sit and they make you feel comfortable by singing songs or making jokes about your flight destinations. Their main goal is to provide their customers with the safest, happiest flight and they never lose this goal which is why I think they have retained such a wonderful image in the aviation community. I love this commercial because it sends the message that Southwest is preparing you to tackle whatever comes your way that day starting with stepping off the plane into airport chaos.

I agree as well, Southwest has impeccable customer service. It is exactly like what we have been reading about in Word of Mouth Marketing. Everything before you get on a Southwest plane is the same, same annoying security lines, same nasty airport food, same ugly and confusing terminals. But when you step on to that plane, Southwest makes it different. They make you laugh and all the sudden you’re not as miserable as you were before. It also helps that they don’t make you pay for checked bags, like everyone else does. All in all, Southwest sets themselves apart by providing great customer care and a different flying experience. Like our book says, thats what makes people talk about them.

I think this ad is absolutely awesome and so well executed. You definitely do not feel like you are watching an airline commercial AT ALL. It is just another example of Southwest Airlines going against the norm and presenting themselves in an exciting, eccentric way. I never really believed the whole hype about Southwest and their customer service but recently I flied Southwest and it was an amazing experience. The flight crew were joking around with the passengers the whole time, making everyone laugh, and usually flights are pretty boring (I mean to have to wait hours to get to your final destination which is hopefully somewhere you really want to go or be is pretty miserable) but Southwest Airlines gave me a little energy boost because the vibe on the airplane was so positive and relaxed. Not to mention I loved the honey roasted peanuts (much better than boring pretzels).
