BARE YOUR SOLE…
Posted by: | Comments
Earlier in the semester I introduced TOMs shoes to AdVirtues, a shoe company with a mission, to provide shoes to people all over the world. For every pair of TOMs shoes you buy they donate one pair to a person in need in a third world country. While most may not
think that providing someone with shoes is that important, think again. Cuts and sores on feet can lead to serious infections, allow entry points for parasites living on the ground and even cause diseases that cripple you, all of which are preventable by wearing shoes. Because of this, people all over the world in developing nations are dying daily because of a parasite that entered through the soles of your feet. In order to raise awareness, TOMs declared today, “bare your sole”
day in which they called people all over the nation to leave their shoes at home. Walking on the SMU campus barefoot was a new experience and gave me a glimpse into the lives of those less fortunate. It hurts and little pebbles seem to find a way to lodge themselves into your soles. It taught me a great deal of what life might be like in places like these and taught me the value of shoes so go outside, walk around and
BARE YOUR SOLES
and together we can change the fate of people halfway around the globe.

Spring Ventures to the World
Posted by: | CommentsTOMS SHOES NEW LINE ARE FINALLY HERE!

Spring is finally here, at least spring fashions are and Toms Shoes has come out with its new line. Run completely on word of mouth, Toms was created by SMU student Blake Mycoskie in 2006 based on the premise of providing shoes for children in third world areas. For every pair you purchase, one pair is donated to a child in need. It is an amazing opportunity to use fashion and culture to help out those that are less fortunate.

These shoes are dropped around the world once a year including locations such as Argentina and South Africa. And with the spring season on our heels Toms offers more opportunities to find the perfect shoe for you while supporting a growing need in our world. The colors are fun and exciting, unlike anything else being created today. To learn more you can go to their website www.tomsshoes.com.

Green Works

When you think of cleaning products you typically think of harsh products such as bleach or cleaners that could be hazardous for our children. But Clorox has set out to change all of that. They recently came out with their Green Works products that are completely organic and biodegradable. The Clorox company took the problems of society today (our growing trash problem and our need for safe products) and translated that into a new product line that benefits the world and people all at the same time.
Not only does Clorox address the issues of the environment and family safety but they have taken it on themselves to help out families with tips and techniques of ridding the house of germs. On their website you can find practical advise for new moms, sick children, flu prevention and more. They take it one step further to help you understand how cleaning products work, their bleach, and their commitment to excellence and community.
Because being green has been a trend on the up lately one could easily dismiss the commercials of Green Works at first view but if you really look into their company you realize that they have been helping the environment in a positive way all along. I am so glad that they finally came out to show the world their values and safe effective products. Finally for effective word of mouth they have added a “Tell A Friend” button to their commercial page, so go ahead and forward your favorite commercials.
I AM SECOND RALLY
Posted by: | CommentsSo where do your priorities stand? If you asked most Americans to truly think about this and to answer with what they really put first in their lives I’m sure you would end up with a great deal of selfish answers. But don’t you think it’s time for advertising to change all that? Launching at the end of December, the I Am Second campaign, which was only launched in Dallas, Tx, has made its way to over 106 countries world wide. The campaign relied entirely on the phrase, “I Am Second” and was spread almost entirely by word of mouth. Two months after its launch, I Am Second came to the campus of Southern Methodist University. Filling the entire Hughes Trigg Theater in the student center, roughly 500 students and community members throughout Dallas, I Am Second reached out with words explaining further their purpose of the campaign. The message was love, promoting good will toward neighbors, and speaking on the true values of Christianity. Since the beginning of the campaign, the I Am Second campaign has changed countless lives and truly began a revival around Dallas and the world. Tomorrow throughout Dallas you may find 500 different people living with a purpose to change the lives of those in their community. If this campaign doesn’t speak to the virtues advertising has the ability to teach, I don’t know what does. If you haven’t heard of I Am Second or would like more information you can go to http://iamsecond.com.

Humanitarian Aid
Posted by: | CommentsWith the growing awareness of humanitarian aid, Advertising must start changing the world in a positive way or it could be left behind. This push towards humanitarian aid and responsible advertising has not only effected America, but the entire world. Ogilvy, Mumbai has recently come out with a great ad campaign promoting adoption of children in orphanages. They use gripping real life photos to show the conditions in which millions of child try to survive in daily and the possibility of a better life. I believe that ad’s like this could really change people’s thinking and push them to help in anyway they can.
