Starbucks Love Project
ByIn 2009 Starbuck’s started the Starbucks Love Project, where you go online and add your voice to the global wall singing “All You Need is Love.” Starbuck’s donated 5 cents for every voice added to the site, which raised over 14 million days of medicine for people living with HIV in Africa. On December 7, at 1:30 GMT, 156 different countries participated in a worldwide singing event to raise awareness for their cause (above is a montage of that event). I had never even heard of this at all until I actually paid attention to what was written on one of my Starbucks cups. I only went to the website because of this class. This is truly a great cause that is refreshingly void of Starbucks product plugs, however I really think Starbucks could do a whole lot of good if they advertised this campaign a bit more. Other than that what congratulations Starbucks you truly are bettering the world, one overpriced latte and Beatles song at a time.

Could not agree more! I am an avid Starbucks driver and fan but did not look into this campaign until this class. I know that Starbucks is not big on advertising – their first big campaign was with the via instant coffee. However, something that isn’t necessarily pushing their products would’ve been a great push for the company. Maybe people who are against the over-priced coffee would see that Starbucks is more than a corporation. Spreading the word through social media would have been the biggest advantage to Starbucks especially with their blog. People who are interactive online would love this – it is so simple, fun and rewarding. This is a topic that talkers would tell their friends about. It’s also a confidence booster – not all would want to sing their hearts out to a Beatles song for all the world to be able to hear!

I think you are so right. This is such a neat thing for Starbucks to do, but the campaign definitely should have been promoted better. They should have made use of social media networks to do it! What I think is so neat about the video is that its powerful seeing people from all over the world do their part to make a difference. People who aren’t artists suddenly become artists because its a beautiful thing to be able to help people in need that way and something that everyone appreciates seeing.
