The Coke Side of Life
ByThis is one of my favorite commercials. I love how coca cola took a notoriously violent video game like grand theft auto and turned it into something positive. I think its clever, and the words of the song send a really great message to the public. They took a video game about violence and destruction and changed it to promote kindness and giving back. I think associating your product with such an uplifting, and funny, message is definitely beneficial. I kind of want a coke now.

Olivia, I hadn’t seen this before! It’s great! I love how Coke parodies Grand Theft Auto and provides an alternative to the glorification of drugs, sex, and violence. If only more companies could make “doing good” cool.
I think identifying the target audience for this ad would be particularly interesting. I wonder if it is targeted to the set of demographics most likely to play these violent video games or not? I also wonder how players of the game would react to seeing this advertisement. I have to say it was effective on someone like me, who doesn’t play these games but knows enough about them to appreciate the satirical nature of the ad.
