The Challenge of Working Fast In the Advertising World
ByI just read this article, “Working Fast and Brillant is the Challenge for Creatives Today” it talks about how advertisers use to have lots of time to do create their ads making there ads worth more. However, now days if you wont do it fast they will find someone else that will and that will be willing to be paid less. You cant ask for more time as an advertiser, everything is go go go. Since there is less time being spent on creating these ads do you think the quality of that ad will be sacrificed? And at the same time do you think that more ethical issues will arise wit this because sometime it is easier to do an add that doesn’t hold to our ethical standards? I Feel as if the quality of our ads will suffer a lot if we keep this trend of faster faster faster… sometimes the best things take a little while to come across, especially in the world that we live in today it might be better if we slow down and take the time to make an ad with a positive meaning behind it.

This has definitely been a growing problem for the advertising world but I think that if you really look at the campaigns that are successful or are great clients to work with they allow more time. If you get an account that requires you to do it as fast as you can with no care of how well the creative is done, you are going to get what you pay for. Eventually these companies will have to realize that it is not their ad agency but it is their business and they need to make the change. The best clients, however, understand that it is more effective to do good creative than to get it done immediately.

I definitely think that when there is more pressure to produce creative work faster that this will lead to producing unethical advertising. Unfortunetly it is easier to come up with socially irresponsible ads then it is to come up with ethical ones. A socially responsible ad takes time and more creative thought because as an advertiser you have to come up with a way to convince consumers to purchase a product but at the same do it in a socially responsible way and I think this can be very difficult. You can see how easy it is to produce an unethical ad when you look at all of the ads out there. That stuff is easy and can be produced quickly but is it ultimately going to be the most effective? Probably not. I think if advertisers are given more time to be creative and hold themselves to ethical standards then companies will see that in the long run it pays off.

I agree. In order to produce a carefully responsible ad it will take time. Kirby made a good point that not only do you have to sell, but you have to do it in a responsible manner. Time pressures are something every industry faces but it is interesting how advertising is just getting faster and faster paced. Eventually business will begin to realize that adequate time is needed to produce a reasonable advertisement. If businesses truly care about the way they are portrayed they would realize the importance of being thorough. Although too much time is a bad thing when it comes to creative products. Sometimes your initial diagnosis of what you want to portray is the essence of your advertisement and it will get lost if the ad is constantly nitpicked and the copy is always changing. Interesting article though
