Exxon Mobil Doing Good
ByIn regards to our discussion yesterday about Exxon Mobil I decided to do a little research about the company. By exploring their website I discovered that Exxon is doing a lot of great things. They have created many programs including a program that they do during the summer in which they recruit 65 interns and send them to work at local non-profit organizations in the Houston area. They also support the Global Climate and Energy Project which combines pre-commercial basic research with the practical know-how of major corporations, in hopes of accelerating the development and use of low greenhouse gas-emission energy technologies. The research focuses on developing solutions— through breakthroughs in fundamental science and engineering science— that will help meet society’s objectives for abundant energy, high efficiency, clean air, and substantial reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.
I also found this great ad which shows Exxon’s support of helping people in Africa with Malaria:
I think this ad is a great thing for Exxon Mobil, I think it shows some of the positive things that the company is doing to help out. It would be so easy and beneficial for Exxon to put more of these kinds of things out on the web. I have never seen this commercial and I never knew about all of the positive things that Exxon is doing. Of course, I have never looked but I think it would be great for Exxon to promote some of these positive ventures more and they could easily combat some of the negative presence they have in social media.

I enjoy seeing all these posts about major corporations donating a lot of money and time to better humanity. We hear so often what these corporations are doing wrong and how ‘evil’ or ‘corrupt’ they can be, but it isn’t very publicized the social programs they have in effect. Dr. Steven Phillips is right when he said that it isn’t up to individuals to fix these problems and issues, but large groups of people and big business.

I am really excited about what Exxon Mobile is doing, especially after our debate in class. So many times companies try to join causes in order to look better to the rest of the world but Exxon Mobile looked at their own employees to see what they needed. I think that shows a great deal of compassion and care for those that they employee and it is really exciting to see how they are positively affecting the lives of thousands employees and their families. If other gas companies or just large international companies in general looked for ways to support their international employees in this way I believe that America would truly help change the world in a positive manner.

I agree with the other comments about ExxonMobile and I also commend them for their dedication to Temerlin on our campus. I do not know the specifics on how their lectureship series endowment works, but I have been in the audience for a few wonderful speakers and really appreciate their gifts. While they might not being engaging in the conversation online as much as other less-traditional companies are, I agree that they are doing good and selfless things for the community.
